Stockport vs Wycombe - prediction, team news, lineups

Stockport County will be looking to pick up another big win when they welcome Wycombe Wanderers to Edgeley Park on Friday.

The hosts currently sit fifth in the League One table, while the visitors are eighth and only two points off the playoffs.

Match preview

Stockport narrowly missed out on promotion to the Championship last season after being beaten in the playoffs by Leyton Orient and they have mounted another promotion bid this season.

Dave Challinor's side are three points clear of seventh-placed Stevenage and come into Friday's game off the back of a thumping 3-0 win over Wimbledon on Saturday.

Goals from Adama Sidibeh, Kyle Wootton and Ollie Norwood earned all three points for the Hatters and Challinor was delighted with the "ruthless nature" of the victory.

Wootton has been key to Stockport's success this season, with the 29-year-old the division's second leading goalscorer with 19 strikes in 38 appearances.

Wycombe are also in the midst of a promotion push and got back to winning ways last weekend as they thrashed rock-bottom Port Vale 4-0 at Adams Park.

Cauley Woodrow, Connor Taylor, Fred Onyedinma and Junior Quitirna all found the back of the net for the Chairboys and manager Michael Duff hailed the way his side bounced back after a disappointing defeat to Leyton Orient a week earlier.

However, Wycombe do not have a great record away from home this season, having won just four of their 20 away league games so far.

It is also worth noting that Stockport have beaten Wycombe in their last two meetings, but the Chairboys did thrash them 5-0 when they last met at Edgeley Park in 2024.

Team News

Stockport may have to make at least one change after Sidibeh picked up a knock against Wimbledon, with Wootton expected to replace him.

Norwood is set to continue in midfield alongside captain Lewis Bate, while Jack Diamond and Josh Stokes may once again start out wide.

Wycombe are unlikely to make changes after their emphatic victory over Port Vale, with Nathan Lowe expected to lead the line ahead of Woodrow.

Onyedinma and Andre Vidigal could continue out wide, while Aaron Morley and Caolan Boyd-Munce are set to start in midfield.

Stockport County possible starting lineup:

Addai; Dacres-Cogley, Olowu, Pye, Osborn; Norwood, Bate; Diamond, Wootton, Stokes; Olaofe

Wycombe Wanderers possible starting lineup:

Norris; Huggins, Grimmer, Taylor, Harvie; Boyd-Munce, Morley; Onyedinma, Woodrow, Vidigal; Lowe

We say: Stockport County 2-1 Wycombe Wanderers

Stockport have been in better form than Wycombe and the Chairboys's disappointing away record means we are backing the Hatters to pick up all three points.
