Kyle Walker: 'Andros Townsend a nightmare for defenders'

Tottenham Hotspur full-back Kyle Walker describes Andros Townsend as a "nightmare" to defend following his memorable England debut against Montenegro last week.

Tottenham Hotspur defender Kyle Walker has insisted that England's newest cap Andros Townsend has all the attributes to become a world-class winger.

Townsend has enjoyed a breakthrough start to the season at White Hart Lane, which led to a Three Lions debut against Montenegro last Friday.

Following a memorable strike from range in that match Walker has revealed that Townsend is a "nightmare" to mark, while declaring that his club colleague is capable of becoming a consistent performer at the highest level.

He told The Mirror: "He's really confident. He just wants to get at players. As a full-back you don't want a right midfielder who is left footed running at you. It's a dreadful thing, I train with him and he's a nightmare.

"I'm made up for him. When I found out he was starting I think I was more excited than him. Just because I know what he can do. We've had some good wingers at Tottenham Gareth Bale, Aaron Lennon, we just seem to breed wingers.

"We are building up an understanding. He just sleeps, eats and breathes football and I pray to God that this is just a stepping block for him to go on and do big things."

The 22-year-old is expected to keep his place for England's crunch World Cup qualifier against Poland tomorrow night, but Walker will be missing through suspension.
