Tottenham Hotspur reportedly make little progress in their efforts to hand a new contract to defender Jan Vertonghen.

Jan Vertonghen is reportedly increasingly likely to leave Tottenham Hotspur on a free transfer.

After an eight-year stay at the North London outfit, Vertonghen's contract is due to expire later in 2020, resulting in widespread interest from elsewhere.

Despite having the opportunity to get the Belgium international off their wage bill, Spurs are said to be open to extending the 33-year-old's time at the club.

However, ESPN claims that chairman Daniel Levy is reluctant to meet the demands of the versatile defender.

While Vertonghen is said to have requested the same income over a two-year period, it is suggested that Spurs were keen for the veteran to take a pay cut.

Inter Milan, Roma and Real Betis are said to be monitoring the situation.
