Tottenham 'confident of beating Man United to Sam Johnstone'

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly confident about their chances of beating Manchester United to the signature of West Bromwich Albion goalkeeper Sam Johnstone.

The 29-year-old sees his contract at The Hawthorns expire at the end of the season, with West Brom currently languishing in 12th place in the Championship table - eight points adrift of the playoff spots.

Johnstone is therefore widely expected to end his stint with the Baggies this summer, and Man United have been tipped to bring their former academy prospect back to Old Trafford.

However, Football League World now claims that Tottenham are 'very confident' about their chances of beating the Red Devils to the signature of the three-cap England international.

The report adds that Spurs expect Johnstone to choose a move to North London, with current backup goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini set to return to Atalanta BC at the end of the season.

Johnstone has kept 15 clean sheets in 36 Championship outings for West Brom this term and left Man United in 2018 without making a single senior appearance for the Red Devils.
