Despite listing Real Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur among his previous clubs, Middlesbrough defender Jonathan Woodgate says that his career has been unfulfilling.

Middlesbrough defender Jonathan Woodgate is disappointed with the way in which his career has turned out.

The 32-year-old began his footballing journey at Leeds United, where he played over 100 Premier League matches, before moving to Newcastle United for £9m in January 2003.

He then joined Spanish giants Real Madrid 19 months later but, after featuring in just nine La Liga matches, he returned to England with Middlesbrough following three injury-hit seasons at the Bernabeu.

Tottenham Hotspur took at chance on Woodgate for £8m in January 2008 and, despite scoring the winning goal in the 2008 League Cup final, the centre-back's time at White Hart Lane was largely spoiled by injury.

When his Spurs contract expired, Woodgate moved to Stoke City last summer. He played 21 times for the Potters before being released and rejoining his hometown club last week.

"I've had good moves but not really fulfilled at clubs. Great moves, not a good career," said Woodgate. "What have I won? Not much. Just an FA Youth Cup and a Carling Cup.

"It does my head in. I get embarrassed about it to be honest. [I was playing for Real Madrid only] five years ago. I was at Stoke last season."

Woodgate has been capped eight times by England at senior international level.
