Villas-Boas impressed by Spurs character

Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas has declared himself pleased with the attitude that his players displayed during their 2-1 win over New York Red Bulls.

The Premier League outfit fell behind to a Kenny Cooper penalty kick after eight minutes, but turned the game around in the second half with goals from Gareth Bale and summer-signing Gylfi Sigurdsson.

"It was good and that's mainly because of the response in the second half," Villas-Boas told Spurs' official website. "We were a bit spread out on the pitch in the first half and they were playing in-between us.

"We came back very strong and managed to get the win that everyone deserved.

"When you go into the dressing room 1-0 down and you are able to turn it around, showing strong character, that is always positive, because of the players' mentality and determination to get the result. That's a good sign."

Spurs' next pre-season fixture is against Watford at Vicarage Road on August 5.
