Tottenham Hotspur's proposed shirt sponsorship agreement with South Africa's tourism board has been scrapped after the deal was met with public uproar.
The Lilywhites' proposed three-year sponsorship - starting from the 2023-24 season and running until 2027 - would have been worth a total of £42.5m.
South Africa's tourism board would have received benefits such as stadium hospitality, matchday advertising, interview backdrop branding and training camps in the country.
However, news of the agreement was met with public outcry as South Africa battles issues such as high unemployment rates, frequent blackouts and water shortages.
As a result, the sponsorship was scrapped at a meeting of the country's tourism parliamentary committee on Tuesday, with committee chairperson Thandi Mahambehlala saying: "This deal, it ends here, today, now," as quoted by the BBC.
"Because there is everything wrong about the deal itself. There must be an investigation on this matter with immediate effect."
Tottenham have been sponsored by Hong Kong insurance firm AIA since 2013, and their partnership was extended until the end of the 2026-27 season three years ago.
