Ryan Mason: 'Mauricio Pochettino key to England breakthrough'

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Ryan Mason admits that Mauricio Pochettino has been key to helping him earn a place in the England squad.

Ryan Mason has claimed that the faith shown in him by Mauricio Pochettino has helped him win a place in the England squad.

The 23-year-old was handed his third call-up by Roy Hodgson at the weekend and is bidding to add to his only cap ahead of games against San Marino and Switzerland.

Mason only made his full debut for Spurs last September, and he admits that the opportunities offered by Pochettino have been key.

"It makes me hungry to achieve more. I have a gaffer who has faith in me so I'm in a position now where I feel I'm only going to improve as a player and a person," he told Tottenham's official website.

"It's an honour to be part of the England squad. I wouldn't say it's so much of an eye-opener, an eye-opener is going on loan to a lower league club from Spurs and I experienced that in previous seasons. To join up with the England squad is the level I've always wanted to reach so it's more of an appreciation for the work I've put in."

Mason has started three of his side's four Premier League games this season.
