Roberto Martinez: 'We were unlucky to lose'

Everton boss Roberto Martinez rues his side's luck in their 2-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane this weekend.

Everton boss Roberto Martinez has claimed that his side were unlucky to lose to Tottenham Hotspur in their Premier League clash at White Hart Lane.

The Toffees took the lead through Kevin Mirallas, but Spurs hit back almost immediately when Christian Eriksen found the net.

Roberto Soldado fired his side ahead just before half time and they held out for the win, despite a strong shout for a penalty late in the game, which was turned down by referee Michael Oliver.

Martinez told the club's official website: "We're really disappointed because I don't think the players deserved to finish with that empty feeling at the end.

"We started the game really brightly, we scored a magnificent goal, which is the hardest thing in football - scoring that first goal away from home.

"I did feel at that point we could have just killed the game and gone for the second goal but we couldn't really find that rhythm. Then the game went into a little bit of a strange moment where Spurs ended up hitting the back of the net twice in a fortunate manner."

Everton are 10th in the Premier League following their defeat to Spurs.
