Lamela: 'It's essential I learn English'

Record signing Erik Lamela has claimed that gaining a quick grasp of the English language will help him settle at Tottenham Hotspur.

The Argentine international cost Spurs £30m when he joined them from Roma in the summer, but has yet to start a game in the Premier League as he adapts to his new surroundings.

After a slow start to his White Hart Lane career, Lamela has admitted that learning English will aid his communication with his teammates and benefit his form on the pitch.

"I'll work hard in training and I want to improve my language, learn the English language, that's one of my main targets," he told reporters.

"It's essential to be able to communicate in English, to talk to my teammates and then in my personal life outside football."

The 21-year-old scored his first Spurs goal in their Europa League win over FC Sheriff 12 days ago.
