Mark Hughes: 'Football Association should respond to Sandro tweet'

Mark Hughes insists that Charlie Adam does not hold a grudge against Spurs and would like to see Sandro punished by the FA for his tweet directed at the Scotsman.

Stoke City manager Mark Hughes has called for the Football Association to punish Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Sandro for his tweet directed at Charlie Adam.

Spurs have written a letter of complaint to the FA regarding Adam's late challenge on Paulinho, which was the latest in a string of tackles from the Scottish international which have injured Lillywhites players.

Two seasons ago, while playing for Blackpool, Adam ended Gareth Bale's season and tough-tackling Sandro has jokingly warned the Potters man that he is on his hit list by tweeting: "Charlie Adams - THE BEAST IS WATCHING YOU!!!"

Hughes feels that Tottenham's stance against Adam is unnecessary and would rather see the FA take some action taken against Sandro than reprimand his own player, whom he insists does not hold a grudge against Spurs.

"Absolutely not," he told The Sentinel. "Why would he? It doesn't make sense. But there's a lot of good players who couldn't tackle.

"We don't appreciate some of their players Twittering on their own sites about 'Waiting for Charlie'. I think that has the potential for a disrepute charge in itself, so we'll see if that's responded to.

"I was disappointed it went to a disciplinary panel as the referee (Kevin Friend) was two yards away from it. Apparently he said he didn't see it. I was disappointed as the referee should have seen it was a genuine attempt to win the ball."

Paulinho is facing a month on the sidelines following Adam's tackle.
