Lewis Holtby to fight for Tottenham Hotspur first-team place

Holtby eyes Spurs starting spot

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Lewis Holtby has vowed to fight for a place in the club's first team in order to improve his chances with the German national squad.

The 22-year-old, who moved to White Hart Lane in January from Schalke 04, is yet to secure a regular starting spot under manager Andre Villas-Boas.

"In the summer, with my first pre-season and hopefully the tailwind of a successful Under-21 European Championship, I want to win a place on the [Spurs] team," Holtby told kicker.

"I am under contract until 2018. I have trust in myself and will establish myself there. And if I show what I am capable of in the top level, I have good chances for the Germany senior team."

Holtby netted four goals in 19 games during the first half of the season with Schalke in the Bundesliga.
