Christian Eriksen: 'We cannot afford to drop points against lesser teams'

Christian Eriksen says that Tottenham Hotspur cannot afford to drop points against lesser teams in the Premier League this season.

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Christian Eriksen has insisted that it is vital he and his teammates do not drop points when playing against the so-called lesser teams in the Premier League this season.

The North London outfit eventually finished fifth in the 2014-15 campaign, but failed to pick up wins against teams struggling for survival.

Mauricio Pochettino's side suffered defeats to Aston Villa and Newcastle United, while points had to be shared with Sunderland and Burnley.

"Of course we ended close and we have been close throughout the season," FourFourTwo quotes Eriksen as saying. "We know there is a step up.

"We did well against the bigger teams last season, hopefully we will continue that, but also against the teams where we don't have a good day we need to stabilise that and get some points in those games as well because that is really important at the end."

Spurs will begin the new season against Manchester United at Old Trafford on August 8.
