Redknapp “disappointed” over Stoke defeat

Harry Redknapp is "disappointed" to crash out of the Carling Cup at the hands of Stoke City but is pleased with Tottenham's performance.

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp has expressed his ‘disappointment’ in failing to progress through to the next round of the Carling Cup.

The London side were beaten 7-6 on penalties by Premier League rivals Stoke City last night.

"We're disappointed to lose, of course,” Redknapp told the club’s official website. “You don't want to lose any game and we came here to win, to stay in the competition. We wanted to go to Wembley."

The former Portsmouth manager fielded a young side to face the Potters and despite the loss, the 64-year-old was impressed with the team performance.

"I was pleased with how some of the kids played, they came in and did a great job," he added.

"Jake Livermore and Tom Carroll in midfield were excellent, top class. We got Sandro back and Rafa played 50, 60 minutes as well, which he needed.

"The back four was strong and the two centre-halves were outstanding.”

Meanwhile, Tottenham face an away trip to Wigan in the Premier League on Saturday.
