Half-Time Report: Son Heung-min spares Kieran Trippier's blushes

Son Heung-min nets two goals to give Tottenham Hotspur a 2-1 lead over Qarabag at the break in the Europa League encounter at White Hart Lane.

Son Heung-min's first two goals in a Tottenham Hotspur shirt have given the North Londoners a 2-1 half-time lead in their Europa League group encounter against Qarabag FK at White Hart Lane this evening.

The South Korea international's brace came within the space of two minutes and 13 seconds, but not before the hosts had fallen behind following a mistake by another debutant.

Kieran Trippier, who joined Tottenham from relegated Burnley in the summer, had been made to wait for his first start for the club, with Kyle Walker having instead been deployed at right-back by head coach Mauricio Pochettino.

However, just seven minutes into his maiden outing, the ex-Manchester City trainee brought down Ansi Agolli inside the area and Brazilian midfielder Richard dispatched the resultant penalty beyond the reach of Hugo Lloris.

It took the Premier League side a little while to adjust to the shock of having fallen behind to the minnows, but once they did, parity was restored quickly. Son's first goal of the evening came when he prodded home a corner in the 28th minute and then with Tottenham's very next attack he turned in Dele Alli's cutback.

There were a couple of warning signs for Spurs as the break approached, though, as Afran Ismayilov fired over after a mistake by Danny Rose, while Reynaldo looped a headed effort over the crossbar.
