Pochettino: 'Spurs were fantastic'

Head coach Mauricio Pochettino has heaped praise on his Tottenham Hotspur side, despite the club's elimination at the last-16 stage of the Champions League.

On Wednesday night, Spurs dominated for large periods against Juventus as they attempted to reach the last eight of the competition for just the second time in their history, but two second-half goals condemned the Premier League side to a 2-1 defeat at Wembley Stadium, with Juventus progressing 4-3 on aggregate.

Pochettino has acknowledged that he is disappointed with the club's exit from Europe, but insists that he is taking the positives from the "fantastic" performance of his team.

At a press conference, the 46-year-old told reporters: "I am disappointed because we missed a lot of chances and of course because the team deserved more. We made mistakes and it was a little bit disappointing. But not only me, the changing room and the players because I think the performance was fantastic.

"Only we can count less than three minutes if you now praise a lot of the play but I think it was a little bit unfair to concede these two goals. It's tough because until this moment, I think Tottenham were much better and the game was under control.

"That is football. Keep going and now to try to see the future, a lot of games ahead to play, two competitions and in football you cannot stop."

Spurs' defeat on Wednesday night was their first in 18 matches in all competitions.
