Vicente del Bosque: 'Door is not closed on David Villa'

Spain boss Vicente del Bosque opens the door to a Spain return for New York City FC striker David Villa.

Spain boss Vicente del Bosque has insisted that the door is not closed on David Villa making a return to the national team.

Following the 2014 World Cup, Villa stepped down from international duty just three caps short of 100 for La Roja.

It had been thought that the striker's move to New York City FC would end his international involvement, but Del Bosque has claimed that the 33-year-old could return for the European champions.

"There are exceptional cases and one of those is David," he told Onda Cero. "He has done so much for the national team. He can reach 100 caps."

Villa, who has scored 59 times for his country, was not included in the latest Spain squad for upcoming games against Ukraine and Netherlands.
