David Villa would "love" Spain recall

New York City FC centre-forward David Villa refuses to give up hope of him one day representing Spain again.

Spaniard David Villa has admitted that he would "love" to play for his country again.

The 34-year-old, who is Spain's leading goalscorer of all time, has not played for La Roja since the 2014 World Cup following his move to New York City FC.

However, the striker has revealed that he is keen to add to his 97 caps.

"I'm close to 100 games with the national team and of course I'd love to return to play for Spain but just like when I was getting called, it's entirely in the hands of the coach," AS quotes for the former Barcelona frontman as saying.

Villa has scored 18 goals in 30 outings for his current employers.
