Southampton to offer £11.2m for Leon Goretzka?

Schalke 04 midfielder Leon Goretzka has reportedly emerged as a target for Southampton.

Goretzka has become one of the most highly-rated youngsters in German football since moving to Schalke two years ago, but his progress was halted when injuries restricted him to just two competitive appearances last season.

However, the Daily Mail claims that Southampton are prepared to bid £11.2m for the 20-year-old after sending a scout to watch him play against FC Twente at the weekend.

Despite the reported interest, Schalke sporting director Horst Heldt told Bild earlier this week: "We do not have the intention to sell Leon, [he] is under contract at our club."

Goretzka made his debut for Germany against Poland in May 2014.
