James Ward-Prowse aims to "nail down" Southampton place

Ward-Prowse wants to "nail down" Saints spot

Southampton midfielder James Ward-Prowse has claimed that he hopes to carry his confidence from international duty into his performances at club level.

The 21-year-old, who has captained the England Under-21s five times under manager Gareth Southgate, is determined to cement a spot in the Saints side.

"To get this experience now, it's going to stand me in good stead for the future," Ward-Prowse told BBC Sport. "Gareth Southgate has helped me a lot in adapting to the role of being captain, but trying to nail down a permanent spot in the Southampton side is the priority at the moment."

Ward-Prowse scored in the Young Lions' 3-1 victory over Switzerland Under-21s in their Euro 2017 qualifier in Brighton last night.
