Ronald Koeman targeting eighth-place Premier League finish for Southampton

Southampton manager Ronald Koeman calms expectations by claiming that his team should aim for an eighth-place finish in the Premier League this season.

Southampton manager Ronald Koeman has suggested that he is not expecting his team to finish higher than eighth in the Premier League this season, despite their strong start to the campaign.

The Saints are currently second in the league table, three points behind leaders Chelsea after six games.

Many tipped Koeman's side to get relegated this season due to the exodus of first-team players, including Adam Lallana, Luke Shaw, Dejan Lovren and Rickie Lambert.

"Eighth place last year was a great result," the Daily Star quotes Koeman as saying. "I think we should be able to do that again this time around. We'll enjoy the moment.

"In the Premier League you get tested every week. Next week we go to Tottenham Hotspur and we now look forward to it again."

Southampton have won their last four league games.
