Jos Hooiveld wants to return quickly for Southampton to erase the memory of last weekend's 6-1 defeat to Arsenal.

Jos Hooiveld is hoping that a calf injury will not keep him out of Southampton's next match against Aston Villa.

The Dutch defender was forced off the pitch before half time in Saints' 6-1 defeat to Arsenal after scoring an own goal at the Emirates.

Hooiveld told the club's official website that he is desperate to overcome a calf problem to play against Villa this weekend.

He said: "I was gutted about that (the Arsenal match). First you get an own goal and then you can't continue the game so you can't set anything straight, but I'm working very hard on my rehab to make sure I get back as soon as possible.

"It was disappointing, but it's something you have to get over. It happened but we can't do anything about it, so it's onto the next one.

"We have to man up and get a smile back on our faces so we can enjoy our football."

Nigel Adkins's side are bottom of the table at this early stage of the season and are yet to earn a point in their first four Premier League matches.
