Steven Davis: Rickie Lambert "deserves" England chance

Southampton midfielder Steven Davis is adamant that Rickie Lambert "deserves" a chance to play for England.

The striker notched up his 14th goal of the season in the Saints' 2-1 win over Chelsea on Saturday.

Davis told the Daily Mail: "I think he deserves a chance. He has shown a level of consistency this year that maybe some of the English strikers haven't.

"Maybe he is seen as a big old fashioned centre-forward but he has good feet, holds the ball up well and he brings a lot of players into play."

Southampton are 12th in the Premier League following their win over the Blues and are four points clear of the relegation zone.
