Shrewsbury Town sign Sheffield Wednesday's Julian Bennett

Julian Bennett has left Sheffield Wednesday to join Shrewsbury Town on a one-month loan deal.

The former Nottingham Forest defender does not feature in manager Dave Jones's current plans at Hillsborough and Shrewsbury boss Graham Turner has admitted that he is delighted to bring Bennett to the League One club.

Turner told the club's official website: "He's played numerous games at the higher level and brings good experience to the squad even though he's only 27 years.

"Julian should have come in last week but I'm pleased that he's finally joined the squad and I really look forward to working with him."

Bennett is likely to start Shrewsbury's FA Cup first-round match with Hereford United on Saturday.
