Teenage keeper pens Sheff Wednesday contract

Sheffield Wednesday have handed a professional contract to teenage goalkeeper Joe Wildsmith.

The 17-year-old, who has yet to make his first-team debut for the Owls, has committed his future to the Yorkshire outfit until June 2016.

"I couldn't be happier, this is a dream come true for me and now I want to build on what I have achieved and go from strength to strength," Wildsmith told the club's official website.

"I want to carry on learning and I will do that working with the likes of Chris Kirkland. Damian Martinez [who is on loan] from Arsenal has already been a big help to me.

"I'd also like to thank my parents for their support, they have always been there for me since Sunday league and I can only say how grateful I am for that."

Wednesday have kept just one clean sheet in 14 Championship matches this season.
