Sheffield Wednesday takeover delayed

Sheffield Wednesday's proposed takeover by Hafiz Mammadov has been delayed due to the businessman's interests elsewhere.

Mammadov, the founder of the Baghlan Group, also owns Ligue 1 club Lens and will take over from Milan Mandaric as owner.

A club statement said: "Unfortunately the planned completion date has been delayed slightly due to some important matters relating to the other business interest of Mr Mammadov which have required his full attention in Azerbaijan.

"This has delayed him from travelling to the UK as he had originally planned and hindered his ability to conclude the takeover."

The Owls drew 2-2 in their pre-season friendly against Doncaster Rovers on Sunday at the Keepmoat Stadium.
