Preston North End end 35-year hoodoo away to Sheffield United

Preston North End beat Sheffield United 1-0 at Bramall Lane to end a 35-year winless streak in the Steel City.

Preston North End have recorded their first victory at Bramall Lane since 1978 with a 1-0 win over Sheffield United in League One.

Both teams struggled to create opportunities throughout what proved to be an insipid opening 45 minutes, with Jose Baxter having the best of the chances.

However, the clash livened up after the interval and the visitors took a giant step toward ending a 35-year hoodoo in the Steel City, with striker Stuart Beavon opening the scoring for the Lilywhites on 68 minutes.

David Weir's men struggled to forge chances to restore parity, and Simon Grayson's men held on to secure all three points.
