Nigel Clough: 'Sheffield United had to dig deep to beat Doncaster Rovers'

Sheffield United boss Nigel Clough admits that his side were lucky to beat Doncaster Rovers in League One.

Sheffield United boss Nigel Clough has admitted that his side had to 'dig deep' to see off Doncaster Rovers on Tuesday night.

The fifth-placed Blades gave their League One playoff hopes a big boost last night as they earned a 3-2 victory at Bramall Lane.

However, Clough concedes that his team could have easily lost the game due to a spirited performance from their local rivals.

"We were probably slightly fortunate to come away with all three points," he told the club's official website. "Because the game was so open it could have gone either way and the scoreline could have been anything.

"It was a real open game. Doncaster have the second best away record in the league for a reason. They produced a very good performance and we had to dig in deep to wrestle to initiative back at times and get all three points."

United are back in action on Saturday when they make the trip to Oldham Athletic.
