Shakhtar Donetsk player Maicon Pereira de Oliveira has died in a traffic accident, the club have confirmed.
The Brazilian striker, 25, was on loan to Ukrainian league club Illichivets Mariupol until the end of the season.
In a statement published on their official website, Shakhtar said that Maicon was a "wonderful person".
"He was a talented footballer, open and friendly guy. Maicon loved life and knew how to make it positive and bright. Tragic, untimely and absurd death took away a wonderful person from our ranks," the club said.
No further details of the accident have been revealed.
