Half-Time Report: Paris Saint-Germain punishing Shakhtar Donetsk

PSG punishing Shakhtar Donetsk

Goals from defenders Serge Aurier and David Luiz have put Paris Saint-Germain 2-0 up against Shakhtar Donetsk at half time in Lviv this evening.

The visitors took the lead early on when Aurier - a replacement for the injured Gregory van der Wiel - climbed highest at the back post to head home Maxwell's left-wing cross for his first Champions League goal.

Shakhtar responded immediately though and could have been level had Fred's powerful strike from the edge of the box found the top corner.

Aurier's cross then deceived Andriy Pyatov in the Shakhtar goal, leaving Zlatan Ibrahimovic an easy header from just six yards out, but the Swedish striker somehow managed to nod wide of goal.

Ibrahimovic's profligacy didn't hurt the visitors, though, as they grabbed a second through Luiz who punished some shambolic defending to flick home from close range.

It was more chaotic defending that allowed Angel di Maria to storm through on goal on the half-hour mark as he collected Maxwell's long ball forward, but the former Manchester United winger miscued his attempted lob, sending the ball wide.
