Dick Advocaat leaves Serbia post after Denmark defeat

Advocaat leaves Serbia post

Dick Advocaat has resigned as the manager of Serbia's national football team.

The former Rangers and Netherlands boss, 67, only took over in the summer, but decided to pack it in after last night's defeat at home to Denmark in Euro 2016 qualifying.

A statement on the Football Association of Serbia's website read: "At a meeting, which was attended by executives of the Football Association of Serbia and Dick Advocaat, Advocaat informed us of his resignation from the post.

"Starting today, Saturday November 15, Dick Advocaat is no longer the manager of Serbia. We wish to thank Dick for his work and his highest levels of professionalism."

Advocaat becomes the third national manager to leave his job today following the departures of Temuri Ketsbaia from Georgia and Claudio Ranieri from Greece.
