Preview: Senegal vs. Zimbabwe - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Tuesday's COSAFA Cup clash between Senegal and Zimbabwe, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Senegal will hope to make it back-to-back COSAFA Cup victories when they lock horns against Zimbabwe on Tuesday at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.

Elsewhere, Zimbabwe are looking to avoid a second consecutive defeat which would all but spell the end of their campaign.

Match preview

After an opening defeat to Namibia, Senegal got themselves back on track by claiming a 1-0 victory against Mozambique on Friday.

Pape Massar Djitte scored the only goal of the game three minutes past the hour mark to hand his side a much-needed three points.

Aliou Cisse's men have moved up to second place in Group B as a result of that triumph, three points behind Namibia and one ahead of their next opponent Zimbabwe.

Featuring as this year's guest nation, The Lions of Teranga now prepare to face a side who they have overcome in the last two meetings between the teams.

The clashes came in the 2006 and 2017 editions of the Africa Cup of Nations, where Senegal secured 2-0 victories on both occasions.

Zimbabwe's search for a first victory of the tournament continues following a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Namibia on Sunday.

A Qadr Amin own goal put Zdravko Logarusic's men behind before Elmo Kambindu made sure of the result with an 86th-minute clincher.

The Warriors have amassed two points from three games, which leaves them in a precarious position with two matches remaining.

Ahead of Tuesday's contest in Port Elizabeth, the COSAFA CUP record winners have it all to do as they aim to leapfrog their opponents with a victory.

Team News

Pape Massar Djitte was handed a rare start versus Mozambique, and he repaid his manager's faith by scoring the winner, so he is likely to keep his place in the XI.

Alfred Gomis made way for Woula Macire Sane in the aforementioned game, but the former is expected to be recalled back into the lineup for this one.

After watching his side blank in consecutive games, Zdravko Logarusic might be forced into tweaking his attacking options in search of the right formula.

King Nadolo will hope to get another opportunity to impress his manager having started just one of three games to date.

Senegal possible starting lineup:
N'Diaye; Gomis, Gningue, Fall, Ndiaye; Kane, Mendy, Diallo; Diene, Diop, Djitte

Zimbabwe possible starting lineup:
Arubi; Amini, Mavhurume, Dzingai, Mucheto; Band, Sarupinda, Tavengwa, Nyahwa; Matare, Karuru

We say: Senegal 2-1 Zimbabwe

A contest between two of the tournament's heavyweights should give rise to a truly exciting affair. Senegal have the upper hand in terms of player quality, and we are tipping them to edge past their opponents by a narrow margin.
