Russ Wilcox hails Scunthorpe United's "most important win of the season"

Scunthorpe United manager Russ Wilcox describes Friday night's 3-2 victory over Accrington Stanley as his side's "most important win of the season".

Scunthorpe United manager Russ Wilcox has described Friday night's 3-2 victory over Accrington Stanley as his side's "most important win of the season".

Second-half goals from Sam Winnall, Hakeeb Adelakun and David Mirfin saw the Iron come back from 2-0 down at Glanford Park.

After the match, Wilcox said: "There were a few choice, but constructive words said at half time - I made it known the fans had come a long way and we weren't performing - I made a couple of changes and put two wingers on and we turned the game on its head.

"At 2-0 down we knew the next goal would be important and we got it early, got it back to 2-2 and I thought it would peter out for a draw, but then David popped up with a fantastic header.

"It was the best three points of my reign and maybe the most important win of the season."

Scunthorpe's victory moved them level on points with League Two leaders Chesterfield.
