Steven Naismith facing international ban?

FIFA have begun disciplinary proceedings against Everton frontman Steven Naismith.

The governing body have acted after video footage was released that appeared to show Naismith elbowing Serbian defender Srdan Mijailovic during a recent World Cup qualifier.

Referee Jonas Eriksson missed the incident, which has allowed FIFA to act.

"We can confirm that FIFA has now opened disciplinary proceedings against the player Steven Naismith," read a short statement.

If found guilty, the 26-year-old is likely to be handed a three-match suspension.
