Schalke are ready to challenge Arsenal for the signature of FC Koln striker Lukas Podolski.

Gunners manager Arsene Wenger has been linked with moves for a number of attackers in the January transfer window.

The German club see the 26-year-old as a replacement for veteran forward Raul, according to talkSPORT.

The Spaniard is thought to be heading out of the Veltins-Arena at the end of the season.
