Di Francesco expects passionate derby

Sassuolo manager Eusebio Di Francesco has stated that he expects his side's derby clash against Carpi to be a memorable occasion.

The 46-year-old recognises the desire of the club's fans to win the fixture, which will be the first time the two sides have met in Italian football's top flight.

"We have prepared for this match as we would any other. We know that the fans keep us going and we respect their feelings and opinions," Di Francesco told reporters ahead of the tie.

"I hope there is pride, but that it also remains only a football game. Whether there are 80,000 spectators or 15, it doesn't matter. The fans understand this fixture, they feel pride and we must respect them."

On newly-reinstated Carpi boss Fabrizio Castori, Di Francesco said: "We have already spoken. I wish him all the best for every match after the one against us. He is a fine coach and good person. He has built a physically solid team who know what is needed in Serie A."

Sassuolo currently occupy sixth position in Serie A, while Carpi are rooted to the foot of the table in 20th.
