Roma back to winning ways

Roma back to winning ways

Roma ended a run of four successive draws in Serie A by beating Cagliari 2-1 at the Stadio Sant'Elia this afternoon.

The Giallorossi made a dominant start to the match, with Adem Ljajic seeing an effort saved by the keeper and Daniele Verde firing into the side-netting.

They made their pressure count eight minutes before the break as Ljajic got on the end of Verde's chipped ball over the top to slot past Zeljko Brkic.

After the break, Duje Cop missed a huge chance to draw the hosts level, but he blazed his strike high over the bar once he had been slipped through on goal.

Roma soon made their opponents pay for that miss when Leandro Paredes was found on the edge of the box by Verde, before directing a volley into the far corner to double his side's lead.

In the fifth minute of stoppage time, Paul-Jose M'Poku pulled a goal back with a thumping header from Danilo Avelar's cross, but it came too late as Roma held on to record a welcome three points.
