James McCarthy: 'Martin O'Neill, Roy Keane have us buzzing'

James McCarthy hails Martin O'Neill and Roy Keane for igniting a "buzz" back in the Republic of Ireland setup since being appointed.

James McCarthy has praised the impact that Martin O'Neill and Roy Keane have had on the Republic of Ireland since coming into the fold, claiming that the duo have ignited a "buzz" in the camp.

The Boys in Green kick-started the O'Neill era in style, comfortably dispatching Latvia 3-0 in Dublin tonight with goals from Robbie Keane, Aiden McGeady and Shane Long securing the victory.

Speaking to Sky Sports News, the Everton midfielder said he is enthused by how the pair have taken to their respective roles as manager and assistant.

"We got a good result and hopefully that will continue," the 23-year-old said. "There is a real buzz around the place, we are all really enjoying it.

When asked of Roy Keane's influence, the 23-year-old added: "It is always brilliant to learn from such a footballing great."

Teammate John O'Shea echoed McCarthy's sentiments, describing the mangerial duo as "natural winners".

"[It has all been] very positive - they are two natural winners and want the game played the right way.

"They know when we have to work hard and press teams when we have to and play when we have to."

O'Neill's men travel to Warsaw next week for another friendly with Poland on Tuesday.
