O'Neill insists Ireland will not give up

Republic of Ireland boss Martin O'Neill is adamant that his side are not giving up the chase to qualify for Euro 2016 despite their 1-1 draw against Scotland.

O'Neill's men missed out on the chance to leapfrog the Scots in Group D as they were held to a stalemate at the Aviva Stadium, where an own goal from John O'Shea cancelled out Jonathan Walters' opener.

Ireland now face an uphill task to reach the tournament in France next year as they trail second-placed Germany by four points with just four matches remaining in their qualifying campaign.

"Scotland will be delighted to get out of here with something but there is still a distance to go, we have not given this up by a long way," O'Neill told Sky Sports News.

"Overall I thought we did enough, we have to be more creative but we gave everything and thought we were going to nick it at the end."

O'Neill's side are next in action against whipping boys Gibraltar on September 4.
