Martin O'Neill calls for 'fantastic' performance against Poland

O'Neill calls for 'fantastic' performance

Republic of Ireland boss Martin O'Neill has called on his players to dig deep against Poland during Sunday evening's Euro 2016 qualifier.

The former Sunderland manager admitted that it will take a "fantastic" performance to derail the Group D leaders, who are in a rich vein of form.

"I hear this talk about us not getting the results in the Aviva the last couple of years. Like everything else, you can change that with one game and one fantastic performance," he told reporters.

"Tomorrow night we know we will have to be at the top of our game to win this match. I think the players are aware of that and I certainly am myself."

He added: "It would be a big dent in proceedings if we were beaten tomorrow night so we have to try and win the game."

Ireland head into the match in fourth place in the group table, level on points with Scotland and Germany above them, while the unbeaten Poles are three points clear at the summit.
