Shay Given passed fit for Ireland's Euro opener

Given passed fit for Euro opener

Goalkeeper Shay Given has been passed fit for Ireland's Euro 2012 opener against Croatia on Sunday, according to Sky Sports News.

The Aston Villa stopper has been struggling with a knee problem that kept him out of training with the squad yesterday.

He did feature for Giovanni Trapattoni's side in their goalless friendly against Hungary on Monday and he looks set to start between the sticks against Croatia in Poznan.

"I don't think wild horses could keep Shay out of the game on Sunday," said goalkeeping coach Alan Kelly.

The other two sides in Group C are the winners of the last two World Cups, Spain and Italy.
