Rennes edge past Valenciennes

Rennes defeat Valenciennes 8-7 on penalties to reach the fifth round of the Coupe de France.

Rennes have progressed to the fifth round of the Coupe de France by defeating Valenciennes on penalties at home.

Philippe Montanier's side took the lead just past the hour mark when Julien Feret successfully converted a penalty.

However, Mathieu Dossevi replied for the visitors in the 74th minute to force the fourth-round tie into extra time.

Neither side could score in the 30-minute period, which extended the contest into penalties.

It was host Rennes who emerged victorious in the shootout, winning it 8-7.
