Real Sociedad beat Sevilla in seven-goal thriller

Sociedad earn dramatic win over Sevilla

Real Sociedad have returned to winning ways in La Liga with a thrilling 4-3 win at home to Sevilla.

David Moyes's side were trailing with eight minutes left before a dramatic turnaround saw them claim the three points.

Following a breathless opening, the hosts made the breakthrough on 16 minutes when Imanol Agirretxe volleyed in Joseba Zaldua's cross at the back post.

Sociedad had chances to extend their lead, but it was Sevilla who scored the next goal as Timothee Kolodziejczak rose above his marker to head in from a corner two minutes before the break.

The second half got off to an entertaining start when Sociedad regained the advantage through a Xabi Prieto penalty on 47 minutes, after Benoit Tremoulinas was adjudged to have pulled Sergio Canales to the ground inside the box.

The visitors came within inches of drawing level once more on the hour as Daniel Carrico's speculative effort from 35 yards crashed against the woodwork.

Sevilla managed to make their pressure pay on 68 minutes when Carlos Bacca guided Ever Banega's free kick into the back of the net with a flicked header.

The game had been turned on its head with 12 minutes left thanks to Kevin Gameiro, who fired a penalty into the bottom corner following a handball by Inigo Martinez to give Sevilla the advantage for the first time.

With time running out and having thrown away two leads, the home side got themselves back on terms on 82 minutes when Alejandro Arribas bundled the ball into his own net.

Sociedad snatched the points in dramatic fashion at the start of stoppage time as Prieto scored his second of the afternoon with a thumping header at the near post.
