David Ospina: 'James Rodriguez deserved Real Madrid move'

David Ospina says that his fellow Colombia international and brother-in-law James Rodriguez deserved his move to Real Madrid.

Arsenal goalkeeper David Ospina has said that James Rodriguez deserved his move to Real Madrid.

The 23-year-old joined the European champions last week for a reported fee of £60m.

Rodriguez was the top scorer at this summer's World Cup and his international teammate and brother-in-law Ospina has praised the midfielder and expressed his delight at how Colombia performed at the tournament.

"It was massive for the family, everyone was very happy," he told Arsenal's official website. "I'm lucky James is part of my family as he is a great footballer and also a great guy. He deserves the best.

"The World Cup was a beautiful experience. We had a big responsibility since Colombia had not qualified for a World Cup for the 16 years. We were very much looking forward to it and we did very well.

"Everyone in Colombia was very happy during the World Cup and they showed it when we arrived home. The welcome from the people was amazing; we were not expecting something like that, and we were all so happy."

Ospina completed his move to Arsenal from Nice on Sunday.
