Kubo: 'I will not waste Real Madrid chance'

Real Madrid youngster Takefusa Kubo has insisted that he will be ready to make the most of his chance at the club when it comes.

The 18-year-old was formerly on the books at Barcelona's famed La Masia academy, but left in 2015 and went on to join Real Madrid last year via a stint at FC Tokyo.

Kubo's performances for Los Blancos during pre-season caught the eye before he was sent out on loan to Mallorca, and he is confident that he will do "great things" for the 13-time European champions when his opportunity arises.

"I'm very grateful to Barcelona and also to FC Tokyo for making me welcome after the ban," he told AS.

"After turning 18, I had the chance to choose a team and I chose Real Madrid because of their interest in me. I'm very grateful. And now I'm a big Madrid fan.

"[My dream is] to be a great player and to do great things at Real Madrid. Also for Japan. It all depends on me and I will have a place at Real Madrid. I'm going to keep working and I'll wait for my opportunity. When it arrives, I won't waste it."

Kubo has made 24 La Liga appearances for Mallorca this season, scoring three goals and creating three more.
