Hello and welcome to Sports Mole's live text coverage of the International Champions Cup fixture between Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid from New Jersey. Los Blancos have lost to Bayern Munich and beaten Arsenal in their two pre-season games ahead of the 2019-20 campaign, while Atletico have overcome both Numancia and Guadalajara this summer. Stay tuned!

TEAMS!

REAL MADRID: Courtois; Odriozola, Ramos, Nacho, Marcelo; Kroos, Modric, Isco; Hazard, Jovic, Vinicius

ATLETICO: Oblak; Trippier, Savic, Hermoso, Lodi; Felix, Koke, Saul, Lemar; Costa, Morata

Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane has made five changes to the team that started the draw with Arsenal last time out. Indeed, Thibaut Courtois, Alvaro Odriozola, Marcelo, Isco and Vinicius Junior call come in, with Karim Benzema amongst those to drop out. Nacho keeps his spot despite being sent off just nine minutes into the clash with the Gunners, which Los Blancos won on penalties after a 2-2 draw.

The big team news for Atletico is that their record signing Joao Felix is fit to start despite limping out of his debut against Numancia last weekend. An attacking side also includes both Diego Costa and Alvaro Morata, while there is another start for Kieran Trippier at right-back. Atletico's Twitter account actually listed Felix as playing in central midfield, but that does seem a stretch – we'll see!

Madrid recorded a 3-1 win over Atletico in the last meeting between the two teams, which occurred at the Wanda Metropolitano in La Liga back in February. Four of the last five league meetings between the two sides have finished level, though, including a goalless draw at the Bernabeu in the early stages of the 2018-19 campaign. There will be a penalty shootout if this finishes all square.

Here we go then - both sets of players have joined us on the pitch ahead of kickoff, which is just moments away. There is a wonderful atmosphere inside the stadium and it should be a fascinating game between the two capital rivals. Stay tuned for live minute-by-minute text updates!

KICKOFF:  Real Madrid kick things off in New Jersey...

GOAL!  ... REAL MADRID 0-1 ATLETICO (COSTA)

GOAL!  Oh my word! Atletico take the lead inside the first minute as Diego Costa is found by Felix and the Spain international's strike is deflected into the bottom corner off the foot of Ramos. There is a slice of luck about the goal, but Costa will not mind one bit!

It must be said that there is a wonderful atmosphere inside the stadium. It is the first time that these two teams have locked horns on American soil, and therefore it is not a surprise to see such a good crowd. The fans have been treated to a goal already!

Costa races clear of Nacho before looking to pick out Morata with a deep cross, but Marcelo does well to make the clearance. It has been a fast start from Atletico here.

CHANCE!  Huge chance for Morata to double Atletico's lead, but the striker, having broke into a one-on-one with Courtois, takes a heavy touch and the goalkeeper can collect!

All happening here as Vinicius has a powerful strike blocked before Odriozola sees a dangerous low cross cleared by Saul Niguez - it really has been a cracking start here.

GOAL!  REAL MADRID 0-2 ATLETICO (FELIX)

GOAL!  Wow! It is 2-0 to Atletico with Saul breaking into the Real Madrid box before delivering back towards Felix, who pokes into the back of the net. Incredible stuff here.

Real Madrid were two down in their last game against Arsenal and that is again the case here. Some of the defending from Zidane's side has been very, very questionable.

CLOSE!  Just wide from Felix this time as the number seven races to the edge of the Real Madrid box before looking to pick out the bottom corner. Could be 3-0 already here.

Morata looks to have a problem for Atletico here, which is a real shame when considering how well he has started. Simeone's side might have to make an early change.

ATLETICO SUB! Morata is replaced by Angel Correa.

SAVE!  Really smart save from Courtois to keep out a strike from Costa, which is deflected once again. Real Madrid really are all over the place in a defensive position here.

Hazard had been disappointing on tour for Real Madrid thus far and the Belgium international has not managed to get into this game. Granted, it is still very early, but Felix on the opposite side has been very dangerous early on. It remains 2-0 to Atletico.

Atletico have another player down as Lodi hits the ground and stays there. The last thing that Simeone's side need is another injury at this stage - Morata has already limped off.

Looked to be an impact injury for Lodi, who is now back on his feet and looks fine to continue. Back to the action and Atletico are again racing away on the counter-attack.

GOAL!  REAL MADRID 0-3 ATLETICO (CORREA)

GOAL!  Atletico have their third as Koke pokes a clever pass towards Angel Correa, who takes a touch before finding the bottom corner with an excellent finish. Some score here.

Real Madrid have been so incredibly poor in the first 21 minutes of this match. There just does not seem to be anything happening for Zidane's side at either end of the field.

It is difficult to read too much into pre-season results, but there is no question that Real Madrid's performance here will be a concern. Defensively, it has been so, so bad.

Decent period of possession for Real Madrid in the last few minutes, but they are struggling to fashion anything of note in the final third. Jovic throws himself at a low cross from Vinicius, but Oblak does really well to come out and win the free kick.

Jovic is still down for Real Madrid following that collision with Oblak.

Jovic is back on his feet and looks okay to continue, which is a relief.

Jovic is not yet back on the field - he is down receiving some treatment. Having seen the replay, it looked a bad one and it would not be a surprise to see a change made here.

Ramos has just chopped Felix to the ground with the Atletico attacker showing off his fancy feet in a dangerous position. Felix has been very, very good early on here.

SHOT!  Saul strikes wide of the Madrid post as another chance comes and goes here.

GOAL!  REAL MADRID 0-4 ATLETICO (COSTA)

GOAL!  This is actually happening. Atletico score their fourth of the game as Koke pokes a clever pass into Costa and the striker finds the bottom corner with an excellent finish. Again, it is rotten defending from Los Blancos, but it was a smart finish from the Spain international.

REAL MADRID SUB! Karim Benzema is on for the injured Jovic.

YELLOW CARD!  Isco (Real Madrid) is booked for a poor challenge on Correa.

Ramos has to head over his own crossbar after a mix-up inside the Real Madrid box....

SAVE!  ... Courtois has to make a brilliant save to keep out a header from Hermoso!

Atletico are four goals ahead but could genuinely have scored six or seven in this first period - that is a real concern for Real Madrid this close to the start of a new season.

Hardly anything from Hazard in this first period, with Atletico utterly dominating across the pitch. Los Blancos have had some decent periods of possession, but have not threatened to find the back of the net. Indeed, another attack comes to an end with the offside flag.

It will be interesting to see what both managers do at the interval - will there be wholesale changes from both teams, or substitutions here and there? Just a reminder that both Morata and Jovic have been forced off with potentially bad injuries in the first half here.

CHANCE!  Big chance for Atletico as Lemar meets an excellent cross from Trippier, but the Frenchman somehow misses the target from close range. Could well have been 5-0 there.

OFF THE POST!  So close for Real Madrid as Vinicius finds some space inside the box before looking to pick out the bottom corner, but his low effort comes off the post!

Little under five minutes of the first period remaining and it has been a stunning half for Atletico, while it has been one to forget for Real Madrid. Four goals to the good - wow.

Vinicius is again involved inside the Atletico box, but the Brazilian just loses control at the vital moment. The pressure does stay on Atletico, but eventually Costa wins a free kick to ease the pressure. It has been some half of football inside this brilliant stadium.

Not long left in the first period, but there might be a decent chunk of added time when considering the changes that have occurred and the small matter of four goals.

SAVE!  Brilliant save from Courtois to keep out a strike from Felix after excellent work from the youngster once again. Felix has had some half of football here!

PENALTY!  Atletico have a penalty as Isco brings Costa to the ground!

GOAL!  REAL MADRID 0-5 ATLETICO (COSTA, PEN)

GOAL!  Costa goes straight down the middle for his hat-trick as Atletico take a 5-0 lead. It is absolutely incredible what has happened in the first half of this football match.

Just a single minute of added time at the end of the first period here.

HALF TIME:  REAL MADRID 0-5 ATLETICO

Well, quite a good first half then, from Atletico's point of view, anyway! Quite stunning from Simeone's side, who have scored five times without reply. Costa has a hat-trick for Atletico, while Felix and Correa have also registered. Rotten half for Real Madrid here.

STATISTICS! Real Madrid actually shaded the first-half possession with 53%, but managed just two attempts and both were off target during a really poor first 45 minutes of action.

Atletico, meanwhile, hit the target with eight of their 14 attempts, scoring six times in the process. It has been an incredible performance from the capital giants thus far here.

BENCH WATCH! Atletico have already made one change tonight with Correa replacing the injured Morata. However, the likes of Herrera, Llorente, Felipe and Vitolo will all be hoping for some minutes in the second period as Simeone prepares to shuffle his pack.

Real Madrid, meanwhile, have had to replace Jovic with Benzema, but the likes of Carvajal, Mariano, Lucas, Rodrygo and Varane are all in reserve. It will also be fascinating to see whether Gareth Bale comes on as the Welshman continues to be linked with a move to China.

This really is the score...

Atletico's last win over Real Madrid was in the UEFA Super Cup last August, but Simeone's team have not overcome their great rivals in Spain's top flight since February 2016. This is only pre-season, but it is a performance and result that will send out a big message.

KICKOFF:  Atletico resume the action in New Jersey...

REAL MADRID SUBS! Navas, Carvajal and Lucas have replaced Odriozola, Courtois and Vinicius.

SAVE!  Comfortable save for Oblak to keep out a deflected strike from Modric. Just waiting to see whether Atletico have made any changes at the break - there has been no announcement.

Looks to be the same XI for Atletico, which means that there will be a host of changes at some point in the second period. It has been a bright start to the action here.

It would not be a surprise to see the pace of the match drop in the second period, but there has been a good tempo since the action has resumed. Zidane will surely have thought about changing his whole team at the break, but that has not proved to be the case.

GOAL!  REAL MADRID 0-6 ATLETICO (COSTA)

GOAL!  It is six for Atletico and four for Costa, who has been on fire. It is Felix with the assist as the youngster finds his teammate, who excellently chips the ball over Navas.

This is only a pre-season match, but there is no question that the result will send shockwaves around the footballing world. Real Madrid look absolutely terrible here.

Marcelo goes for a spectacular over-head kick inside the Atletico box, but doesn't really make proper contact and Atletico have a goal kick. More goals to come here?

We are entering the stage of the match where Simeone will be thinking about changes - it really has been some performance, but tiredness will start to become an issue here.

Half-chance for Benzema as the striker meets a cross from Lucas, but his header was always rising over the crossbar. Little bit better from Zidane's side there.

GOAL!  REAL MADRID 1-6 ATLETICO (NACHO)

GOAL!  Real Madrid finally give their fans something to cheer as Nacho converts from close range after Oblak failed to deal with a cross from Hazard. Better from Los Blancos.

REAL MADRID SUBS! Real Madrid have just made about 100 changes at once, which is always helpful. I will attempt to confirm the changes when they become clear here.

Oh my word - all kicking off here. Costa has just clashed with Lucas. The referee is across to get involved, but there might have to be a few cards here. Not good to see.

Carvajal chopped Lemar to the ground with a poor challenge and that led to Costa coming across to have a word with Carvajal. The referee is just working out what to do here.

RED CARD!  COSTA (ATLETICO)

RED CARD!  CARVAJAL (REAL MADRID)

Carvajal and Costa are both shown straight red cards following that collision. Quite the Madrid derby this has been. What a completely crazy game of football here.

REAL MADRID SUBS! Kubo, Bale, Rodrygo, De La Fuente and Sanchez replaced Modric, Marcelo, Isco, Hazard and Ramos when those changes were made a short while ago.

GOAL!  REAL MADRID 1-7 ATLETICO (VITOLO)

GOAL!  Atletico have their seventh as Vitolo breaks into a dangerous position before picking out the back of the net with a smart finish. This incredible game continues to produce.

CLOSE!  Utter chaos at the back for Real Madrid as Zidane's side survive another dangerous moment inside their own box with Atletico having so much room to operate here.

CHANCE!  Huge chance for Camello to score for Atletico as the ball breaks for the Spaniard inside the box, but Navas somehow manages to collect. Atletico could have had 10 tonight.

Atletico continue to force the issue as we head into the final 15 minutes of action.

Not too much to report in the last few minutes and it is not too much of a surprise that the match has settled down following an incredible period. What a game it has been here.

CHANCE!  Vitolo somehow lifts the ball over the crossbar from close range after an excellent low cross from Camello, who has been very bright since entering the field.

Bale breaks into a dangerous position for Real Madrid, but there are no takers on the Welshman's low cross into the box. It remains 7-1 Atletico with 82 minutes on the clock.

Real Madrid are next in action against Tottenham in the semi-finals of the Audi Cup and it will be very interesting to see how Zidane's side bounce back from this result.

PENALTY!  Real Madrid have a penalty as Nacho is fouled by Herrera.

GOAL!  REAL MADRID 2-7 ATLETICO (BENZEMA, PEN)

GOAL!  Benzema finds the back of the net from the spot and it is 7-2 to Atletico.

YELLOW CARD!  Nacho (Real Madrid) is booked for a foul on Vitolo.

GOAL!  REAL MADRID 3-7 ATLETICO (DE LA FUENTE)

Real Madrid have their third of the night as De La Fuente bundles the ball home from close range following a mix-up inside the box. Some positives for Los Blancos late on.

FULL TIME:  REAL MADRID 3-7 ATLETICO

And breathe! What a game of football. The referee blows his whistle and Atletico have ran out 7-3 winners over Real Madrid in New Jersey. The fans have been treated to 10 goals and two red cards, with Costa and Carvajal both being sent off in the second period.

That is just about it from me tonight, but thanks for joining us for what was a stunning game. I shall leave you with the match report from New Jersey. See you again soon!
