Cristiano Ronaldo double gives Real Madrid victory over Malmo

Ronaldo double gives Real Madrid victory

Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice to become Real Madrid's joint-leading scorer in club history, as his side eased past 10-man Malmo 2-0 in their Champions League clash this evening.

The visitors controlled possession early on, but Malmo were threatening on the break, as Anton Tinnerholm and Markus Rosenberg both tested Real Madrid keeper Keylor Navas.

Ronaldo forced two first-half saves from Johan Wiland in the Malmo goal before finding the net on 29 minutes, as a quick counter-attack saw Isco thread a pass through to the Madrid talisman, who placed his shot into the corner of the net.

Madrid full-back Dani Carvajal almost doubled his side's lead before half time, but the Spanish international's volley from a tight angle struck the crossbar.

After the break the visitors came close to a second goal as Isco played in Mateo Kovacic on the edge of the Malmo penalty area, but the Croatian's effort went narrowly wide, before a Toni Kroos strike was deflected away from goal.

The hosts almost found an equaliser on the break, as Tinnerholm found Rosenberg with a right-wing cross, but the former West Bromwich Albion man headed wide of the post.

Ronaldo forced two fine saves from Wiland late in the match, before the winger added his second goal of the night to wrap up the victory with a close-range finish from a Casemiro cross.
