Real Madrid injury, suspension list vs. Shakhtar

Real Madrid will be looking to bounce back from successive defeats when they continue their 2021-22 Champions League group-stage campaign away to Shakhtar Donetsk on October 19.

Carlo Ancelotti's side had been due to take on Athletic Bilbao in La Liga this weekend, but the contest has been postponed due to the scheduling of the South American World Cup qualification fixtures.

The capital giants have picked up three points from their two Champions League games this term, beating Inter Milan on September 15 before suffering a shock 2-1 home defeat to Sheriff Tiraspol at the end of the month.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up all of Real Madrid's injury and suspension news ahead of their battle with Shakhtar, who have one point to show from their two Group D fixtures.

Gareth Bale remains on the sidelines due to the hamstring injury that he picked up ahead of the clash with Celta Vigo on September 12.

Ferland Mendy

Status: Major doubt Type of injury: Muscle Possible return date: October 19 (vs. Shakhtar)

Ferland Mendy is back in first-team training as he bids to make his first appearance of the season, and the Frenchman has a chance of being in the squad against Shakhtar.

Marcelo

Status: Major doubt Type of injury: Muscle Possible return date: October 19 (vs. Shakhtar)

Marcelo has been struggling with a muscular problem in the early stages of the season and was again absent against Espanyol, but the defender is back in first-team training and could yet feature here.

Dani Ceballos sustained an ankle injury while on duty with Spain during the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and is not yet close to making his return for Ancelotti's side.

Dani Carvajal

Status: Major doubt Type of injury: Calf Possible return date: October 19 (vs. Shakhtar)

Dani Carvajal has recently been absent due to a calf problem, but the defender has been doing individual work on the training ground over the international break and is closing in on a return.

Marco Asensio

Status: Minor doubt Type of injury: Muscle Possible return date: October 19 (vs. Shakhtar)

Marco Asensio missed out against Espanyol before the international break due to a muscular problem, but the attacker is in contention to make his return against Shakhtar.

Isco

Status: Minor doubt Type of injury: Back Possible return date: October 19 (vs. Shakhtar)

A minor back problem forced Isco to miss the clash with Espanyol earlier this month, but the Spaniard could be in the squad against Shakhtar if he continues to progress in the coming days.

Mariano Diaz

Status: Major doubt Type of injury: Ankle Possible return date: October 19 (vs. Shakhtar)

Mariano is back in individual training, as he bids to overcome an ankle problem, and the forward will look to join first-team training before the end of the week with a view to potentially making the squad next week.

Eden Hazard

Status: Minor doubt Type of injury: Muscle Possible return date: October 19 (vs. Shakhtar)

Eden Hazard picked up a muscular problem during Belgium's defeat to France in the UEFA Nations League semi-finals, but the issue is not thought to be serious, so he could be available here.
