Alex McCarthy ruled out for season

Reading goalkeeper Alex McCarthy will not play again this season after he was told that he needs shoulder surgery.

The 22-year-old picked up the problem during his side's 1-1 draw with Queens Park Rangers on November 4.

McCarthy tweeted: "On route back home from London, was expecting the outcome with the specialist. Surgery on Monday. My season over!"

The shot-stopper has featured eight times in all competitions for Reading this season.
