Nick Blackman: 'Playing in preferred position has helped me'

Reading forward Nick Blackman says that playing in the same position on a consistent basis has been key to his impressive run of form this season.

Reading forward Nick Blackman has revealed that a change in position has helped trigger his impressive goal return since the start of the season.

Since being used further forward, Blackman has contributed eight goals in 12 games in all competitions, and the former Sheffield United player admits that he feels relieved to have ended a frustrating period for him at the Madejski Stadium.

The 25-year-old told BBC Radio Berkshire: "I've had a couple of frustrating years since I've been here. I think the main thing is I've been given a consistent run of games in a forward position and not necessarily being a rigid right-winger.

"I did my best for the team, but I don't think it's my best position. Just getting a continued run of games is important.

"I've been used as a wide forward, which I really enjoy there. But, we had a heart-to-heart at the end of last season and it was good and was needed."

Blackman is expected to feature in Reading's starting lineup when they face Middlesbrough on Saturday afternoon.
